The Valvasor’s Hunting Lodge in Neudorf or Zavrh is a reminder of former aristocratic times and was considered the second seat of the Valvasor family, a famous noble house that, in addition to the Neudorf manor, also owned a mill in the Sopot valley. Janez Vajkard Valvasor, the polymath and author of The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (Slava vojvodine Kranjske), who lived in the 17th century, lived in the mansion for a time and included it in his noble coat of arms. During World War II, the inhabitants of Zavrh were expelled, numerous valuables disappeared from the manor, and it served as a German outpost. The legacy is now preserved by the successors of Franc Bostič, who purchased the estate at the beginning of the 19th century. In the mansion, you can view the renovated hunting and knight’s room, a preserved statue of St. Roch, and a tunnel that is believed to have led from the manor down to the Sopot valley.
